As Qurlin have no innate sex and can change it as they see fit, any two Qurlin are able to breed regardless of sex. While this may interest those in Fayt’s seedy underbelly looking to make Shocked Quartz off of rare and fantastical Qurlin who think more freedom in breeding means easier to obtain genes, breed carefully — due to the volatility of Qurlin genetics, inbreeding still is a the primary risk in breeding Qurlin and comes with severe consequences, such as stillbirths or infertility.

Rather than live births as one might expect from a creature that looks so feline-like, Qurlin lay eggs. These eggs look remarkably like gemstones, a group of which is referred to as a cluster. Clusters are laid one to five at a time. No incubation is required, they will hatch on their own into a litter of kits, however some Qurlin choose to bury their clusters beneath the hot sand to help protect against dangers like overland predators, lightning strikes, and flooding — this can put them at risk of being found and swallowed whole by Dune Wyrms, however.

In Qurlin culture, before a Qurlin is permitted to lay a cluster of their own, they must perform rites to the Daemons, at which point they are free to breed. However, due to the nature of Fayt, its rule, and attempts at curbing the sale, trading, and breeding of creatures still not much is known about, there are strict limitations on how often Qurlin are able to breed.

There has been pushback about these limitations, primarily due to the fact that Qurlin are nearly as intelligent as Ancestors themselves. Currently, there is a compromise in place to limit breeding based on Qurlin societal rankings.
